On November 25, a ceremonial gathering took place in Berestechko, Volyn region, to unveil a memorial plaque in honor of Viktor Hryhorovych Tkachuk, a coach who gave his life defending Mariupol.
Before the full-scale invasion, he worked as a football coach at a local school, where he taught children not only how to play but also how to be strong, determined, and honest. Shortly before the invasion, he moved to Mariupol, where he became a coach at the FC Azovstal – Shakhtar youth academy. After the war began, he stayed in Mariupol, continuing to help people trapped in the warzone. Tragically, he was killed while attempting to rescue civilians, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy in the hearts of those who knew him.
In his honor, the Ukrainian Security Union (UOS) initiated football tournaments, as the sport was a fundamental part of his life. A series of events promoting youth engagement and patriotism was also organized to inspire the next generation.
This day serves as a reminder that Heroes never die. Their courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us to fight for our freedom and independence.
